Gustaaf Peek

Gustaaf Peek (1975) is a poet, novelist and screenwriter. His novel Ik was Amerika (2010) tells the story of nazi-soldier Dirk Winter, who fights in North-Africa and is captured by the allied forces. Ik was Amerika won the the BNG New Literature Prize and F. Bordewijk Prize. His screenplay for the 2015 film Gluckauf won a Gouden Kalf, Zilveren Krulstaart, and Best Screenplay Award at the Brussels Film Festival. In 2017, Peek published a pamphlet titled Verzet. Pleidooi voor communisme. Peek uses the intellectual heritage of Karl Marx and Rosa Luxemburg to explore the ultimate failures of capitalism and the fair redistribution of capital, knowledge and power. His chapbook for the Verzet series, In Defence of Communism, is a translation (by Brendan Monaghan) of this striking pamphlet.
