Maartje Wortel

Maartje Wortel (1982) is the author of several novels and short story collections. She is also a journalist and writers columns for the NRC Next and Trouw. She debuted in 2009 with the short-story collection Dit is jouw huis, which won the Anton Wachter Prize in 2010. Her first novel Half Mens was published in 2011 and was nominated for the BNG Bank Literature Prize. Her latest short-story collection, Er moet iets gebeuren (2015), provides the stories for the Verzet series. It was nominated for the Fintro Literature Prize and the ECI Literature Prize. The short stories in her chapbook Something has to happen (translated by Jozef van der Voort) are both alienating and logical, idiosyncratic and playful.
